Sodium Formate

Sodium Formate

Category:

Sodium formate (English name: Sodium formate; Formic acid sodium salt), also known as sodium formate, contains two crystalline waters in the crystals, so it is also known as sodium formatehydrate dihydrate, sodium formaterate dihydrate, and sodium formite dihydrate. Sodium formate is the simplest organic carboxylate, which is white crystals or powders with a slight formic acid odor. Slightly deliquescence and hygroscopicity. It is easily soluble in about 1.3 parts of water and glycerin, slightly soluble in ethanol and octanol, and insoluble in ether. Its aqueous solution is alkaline. Sodium formate decomposes into hydrogen and sodium oxalate when heated, and then forms sodium carbonate. Sodium formate is mainly used in the production of insurance powders, oxalic acid and formic acid. It is used in the leather industry as a camouflage acid in chrome tanning, as a catalyst and stabilizing synthetic agent, and as a reducing agent in the printing and dyeing industry. Sodium formate is harmless to the human body and has an irritating effect on the eyes, respiratory system and skin. The molecular formula is CHO2Na, and the chemical structure is HCOONa, HCOONa·2H2O.
